Reverse Engineering - the problems

When course content needs to be converted into an accessible format, many believe this is a simple process of scanning and OCRing the content and then handing it on to the student.

Yes, you could do that, if you wanted the student to have content that was not complete, had words changed, had a lot of rubbish in them, was missing content. Would you be happy to receive this type of content yourself? Of course you wouldn't.

Developing Accessible Curriculum as Core Business

 

This is an area that has been addressed by the schools sectors, but is one that from personal experience has not been acted upon in our universities.  Implications for the Higher Education sector of not addressing this issue are threefold
